Welcome to a fresh, new year at Krause! I think you will be pleased with all the positive changes that are taking place on our school campus! Mr. Davenport is now our assistant Vice Principal, a great addition to the office and our administration team. We have a freshly cleaned school, in addition to some new carpeting in the fourth, fifth and kindergarten classrooms. We also have a few new staff members in some classrooms, along with a few shifts in positions. Our staff is ready and eager to meet our students, and we are all looking forward to a productive and fun year!
Today is the end of the first week...and we all survived! School is off to a great start! We continue to iron out a few things that needed to be tweaked, but we're well on the way to mastering routines and meeting new friends. At this point, you should have turned in the classroom packet agreement form, the movie permission form (green), and the student information sheet (yellow). By next Friday, all math packets are to be turned in, along with reading, reviewing and signing the agreement form at the front of the planner. You can leave this INSIDE the planner, and I will check Friday for signatures of you and your child. Remember, too, that the TCB Summer Reading Challenge calendar is due by Wednesday of this coming week.
The fourth grade teaching staff is busy planning our calendar for speakers and experts to come in and share their information with our students. In order to do this, we will be collecting a fee to cover the costs of each speaker/presenter/purchase. Please look for this note early next week. Students did a great job presenting their Brown Bag project this week! Almost everyone chose to share with the class, and we were able to learn a lot about each other. It's also a great start to presenting in front of a group of peers and working on those early public speaking skills. Speaking of speaking skillls, your student brought home a note about Student Council. We had a discussion in class today about what a student needs to do if he or she is interested in running for this position. Please take a minute to talk about this and possibly even help your child construct a short speech for next Friday before our election. We ended our week with a fun game show-themed assembly, loosely based on the "Press Your Luck" show...Whammies and all! Students had fun answering questions on positive choices, PAWS behavior, and ways to stay safe at school. As your son/daughter what happened when a Whammy was chosen from the bag! An interesting article was brought to my attention this week. I am posting a link for you to read it, too. http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/06/living/teachers-want-to-tell-parents/index.html?hpt=hp_c2 As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me! Enjoy your weekend...here's hoping for two more days like today!! Sincerely, Miss Redd Welcome! I am very excited to begin a new year with you and your child. I have been busy setting up the classroom, purchasing new supplies, preparing lessons, and anticipating a new group of fourth grade students!
I firmly believe that school is a triangular partnership and needs all three parts to be a balanced relationship: student, parent and teacher. If one is not participating, the balance is thrown off and not working at full potential. I strongly encourage you to contact me at your earliest convenience if you have a question or concern. I also encourage you to ask your child for information about school, our daily happenings, and what he/she is learning. Taking just a few minutes to talk about school each day can dramatically increase student success. Research shows that students who have involved parents do better academically. Your involvement shows the importance that should be placed on the education of your child. Our partnership in education will move your child that much further ahead! The first thing I'd like to share with you is our schedule of specials classes. You will notice that Friday says "rotation" due to four specials and five days in the week. That last day will rotate through each of the four specials for the school calendar year. You will see the dates and specials for Friday listed throughout the year. Please note that we will also have library/computer time each week, also. The day and time will be passed along as soon as the schedule is in place. Monday: Music Rotation Dates: Tuesday: Art 9/6-11/4 Music Wednesday: Cultures 11/7-1/27 Art Thursday: Gym 1/30-3/30 Cultures Friday: See Rotation 4/26-6/6 Gym **All specials classes listed above are from 8:50-9:30 a.m. Lunch break will be daily from 12:15-12:50 with recess PRIOR to lunch. I look forward to spending the next year of school with your child and you! Here's to a great year!! Sincerely, Miss Mary Redd |
